2 Weeks until Christmas on the dot
The night before Christmas, I mean the part right after midnight when it's actually Christmas. It's quiet as i sit by the fireplace all the presents have been arranged around the tree which gives off its own light with the lights around it also during their thing. I actually feel kind of bad for the presents they are so generously wrapped with perfection it's going to be a shame that they get torn so quickly. I don't know why I am still up it's 1 in the morning , I should be doing one of those long winters naps or whatever.
Outside, I don't think anything is going on nothing i think even animals take the night off, they must know that it's Christmas. That is until I hear a knock at my door, why is some one knocking at my door at this time? Why on Christmas? If they were robbers then at least they were polite. I looked through the thing on the door to see who's there. It was a man , a fairly large weighted man wearing a large orange , maybe faded red, coat. I could see part of his face in the hood he had a white beard. I opened the door, he might not kill me.
"Excuse me, sir I am sorry to be bothering you at this time but my vehicle had a problem , I need to call for some help", he said.
"Well then come in, I have a phone over there, someone might as well use it", I said.
"Mighty thanks of kindness to you sir", he said. He had one of those friendly but deep voices.
"If I can ask, why are you out so late?" , I asked.
"I had a little bit of work to finish up and it had to be done before Christmas", he said.
He put his hood down he had that salt and pepper hair more salt though. I left him to his call,I respect privacy. After awhile, I came back and he was just standing there. I pointed to the couch and said he could sit there. He smiled and did sit upon the couch with care.
"My help will be here soon", he said.
"That's good, do you need my help with anything, I am not too good with cars, but if you need help with a spare?" , I asked.
"That's alright, I think it will be alright", he said.
"Do you want something to drink?"I asked my tempoary guest.
"You don't need to make a fuss", he confessed.
"It's not a fuss, you sure, I'm sure I have something", I said.
more after the jump
" I believe I do," I replied.
To my kitchen I went , turning on the light to check the fridge on what I had. There was this one soda I was saving for Christmas Day. It wasn't fancy it was just an orange Mountain Dew. It was the last one. But I wiped the top off with a paper towel and walked back into the living room. The man was looking at the fire burning. I came in and said
"Here you go, hope you enjoy."
"Thanks", he said. the can made that hiss sound when he opened it and he took a sip.
"Quiches my thirst, been a busy night", he said.
"Glad you enjoy it", I said.
I sat back down in my chair, I was curious about the man but, didn't want to pry. He may have caught on to my thoughts because he started talking.
"Do you live by yourself?", he asked.
"No, my wife and kid are upstairs, asleep", I replied.
I hoped he wasn't a murderer.
"Ah, hope you have a Happy Christmas, with all the joy", he said.
"Thankyou, do you have any family you will be seeing?" ,I asked.
"As soon as my help comes, then yes sir", he said.
"That's good to hear", he said.
It felt longer but only 15 minutes had passed when the door knocked again. It was his help I believed. He got up and opened the door and said something I didn't hear or try to hear. Then he turned back to me.
"Well, It looks like I can go now, thankyou for your kindness", he said.
"It was no big thing" , I said.
"It was too me, Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and your kin (yeah like the song) and a good new year", he said.
"To you as well ,sir", he said.
"Thank you for the last pop as well" , he said as he left.
How did he know it was the last soda? I don't know. I locked the door and sat back in my chair. I noticed something different, where there more presents under the tree than before. I wonder, there's no way? I went to the kitchen to find a little snack in the fridge and saw that there was more soda in there , that wasn't there before. I took out a piece of lunch meat and rolled it up and ate it on the way back to my chair. I fell a sleep, waiting for Christmas.
