10 Days until ChristmasThis time our Old Time Radio selection takes us to an episode of "Richard Diamond, Private Detective" an episode based off "A Christmas Carol" Radio station of the day I think they are doing a great mix of commercial free Christmas music. You of course get the traditional songs but then they give you something more. One of my criteria that i like to say on these stations is something that fits that. I think this one fits well.
UCentral Radio from Edmund , Oklahoma run by the University of Central Oklahoma is today's station of the day. Once again it's that time of year. Time likes to go in a flash , I'm astounded. We are all ready to go in the pole here, just checking out the conditions will be on the big day. We have a great team of meteorologists who help us figure out these things. Now, this doesn't mean you don't have time to get your Christmas request in, so don't fret! Mrs. Claus is doing fine this year, we went on a nice vacation back in off season, during the spring, We saw some beautiful places. Did you see us? I've also had time to catch up on some programs there are so many new shows around these days, I'm quite overwhelmed! Though, I do love my classic TV shows a little bit more. I also like to watch Christmas specials, they bring me and Mrs. Claus smiles. I am always pleased to see that ole Grinch figure out the meaning of Christmas. This can be hectic time of year, so please take care of yourself and take a break to appreciate the season. Maybe think a little hot chocolate. My favorite kind is the peppermint version, it's quite tasty. You can do it with adding a peppermint candy cane as well, and it makes a great stirrer! Well, I've got to go now, I might get a chance to write another blog post before Christmas, but if not, I wish you all a Merry Christmas! Radio Station of the Day Now the radio station of the day, and what's the best radio station name for a Christmas radio, why not Christmas FM?

Beginning to look lot like Christmas Yes, there's 2 weeks until Christmas , time is going way to quick, please slow it down! I guess it's beginning to look at lot Like Christmas or something. That brings us to a look at a Christmas song. It's a Christmas song that is very much a classic and part of the Christmas tradition. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas Everywhere you go; Take a look in the five and ten glistening once again With candy canes and silver lanes aglow. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas Toys in every store But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be On your own front door. The song paints an image for you from the start. Where it wants to take you away into the thoughts of what Christmas looks like. "Take a look at the five and ten" references the five and dime stores. Then it paints the image of looking inside one of the big windows and seeing the store decorated for Christmas. Then, it's showing you different aspects of Christmas. It's a very visual song , where almost every lyric is describing something. A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots Is the wish of Barney and Ben; Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk Is the hope of Janice and Jen; And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again. Read the rest here Over on JoshuaonlineSo we've looked at Frosty, Frosty Returns, and Now it's time to take a look at Frosty's Winter Wonderland Where he gets a wife. You can read that here. So, why does Santa come down that way? There have been some interesting explanations. The 1970 Christmas special, "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" explains that Santa comes down the chimney because doors were locked. The idea of Santa Claus coming down the chimney comes from the Washington Irving and his book from 1812 "Knickerbocker's History of New York". ... earth and bless his rural habitations, so we are told, in the sylvan days of New Amsterdam, the good St. Nicholas would often make his appearance in his beloved city, of a holiday afternoon, riding jollily among the treetops, or over the roofs of houses, now and then drawing forth magnificent presents from his breeches pockets, and dropping them down the chimneys of his favorites. Whereas, in these degenerate days of iron and brass he never shows us the light of his countenance, nor ever visits us, save one night in the year; when he rattles down the chimneys of the descendants of the patriarchs, confining his presents merely to the children, in token of the degeneracy of the parents. This idea of beings coming down the chimney wasn't thought up by Irving ,though. In the 15th century a French Scholar , Petrus Mamoris, was bothered that Christians were giving too much power to the occult by saying that witches could just come through doors and walls. So he explained, that Chimneys would be how they enter your house, because this is the 15th century. This did become a belief of acceptance later. Around the renascence, the idea that witches would attend their meetings by entering through chimneys also came into being. (Because screw doors!)
Because Chimneys were part of the normal need in those ages stories were formed around them as being a place for extraordinary figures to come through and have fun. There are figures that would enter the house through Chimneys to do good or bad. We previously talked about a witch that came into homes for Christmas through the chimney . Eventually, the poem "Twas the Night Before Christmas" continued the idea of Santa Claus coming down the Chimney instead of just teleporting through the wall or breaking your windows. Showing a bunch of stories and concepts handed down all coming together to create a tradition. 18 Days until Christmas
I think we are making Sunday an Old Time Radio Show day. We have T'was the Night Before Christmas from the series , "Suspense" In this episode "A child anxiously awaits the return of her parents from an overseas trip on Christmas Eve, but her parents are several hours late and their plane reported missing."

One of my problems is that I kind of assumed everyone knows about the same collective things, case in point: this special. I at least assumed everyone has seen this special and really , I shouldn't. That's one of the reasons why I never really jumped on this special to write about. I also really do like looking up stuff people really probably haven't seen or I've not seen my self to show my thoughts to all. Since this is a special year for this special, I think it's time to write about it. Now This is "Frosty the Snowman" You can read this full blog post on our sister blog, Joshuaonline HERE Radio Station of the Day This is yet, another station that plays Christmas music, that I come back to each year. That is because I think it's excellent. They do a great mix of Christmas music including cross genres and some solid classics. So give them a listen.

Now. it's time for another Christmas figure this one is from the Alsace-Lorraine and also likes to eat children. Hans Trapp was a rich guy in the fifteenth century, according to the legend. He wasn't a very nice man though, or else I wouldn't be talking about him. Apparently, he was so awful the Catholic Church excommunicated him. Going back home the people there didn't want him around : taking his money and land. So he ended up having to live on a mountain and started to lose his faculties. This caused him to put his investment in Satanism and wanted to eat human flesh. He did the logical step of hiding as a scarecrow to lurk and eat people. One day a 10-year-old Shepard boy was walking by doing Shepard boy things and well he killed the poor kid . (Not sure why these Christmas legends are obsessed with eating children) Then he cut him up, (you know, dude, he was a Shepard boy, could have just stole a sheep) Before he could eat him, he was struck down by God's wrath and lightning. (Could have done that before hand , but sure) For the region though he still hangs around disguising himself as a scare crow and punishing children who were bad. The story has root in a German knight named Hans Von Troth who got a land dispute and ordered a river closed off causing a a town to lose its water supply then he flooded the town. Later, he got excommunicated from the church. This is another one of those "You Better Watch out or die kind of legends that makes Santa giving you coal seem like the best fate" . sources: https://www.patheos.com/blogs/matauryn/2018/12/11/hans-trapp/ https://historycollection.co/ten-terrifying-christmas-customs-legends-around-world-will-give-chills/7/ Radio Station of the Day Today's station, I really find enjoyable KRAM-LP does a great mixture of Christmas music , going through different genres like Rock, Jazz, and anything between.
