18 Days until Christmas 6th Night of Hanukkah
One of the most famous Christmas stories is the 1905 short story done by O'Henry. A tale of a man and wife who didn't have the most money in the world. The wife named Della decides the best thing she could do for some extra Christmas cash was to sell her hair for 20 bucks. Which, is a lot of money in 1905 she uses that money for her husband's watch a nice chain for it. While Jim, her husband, comes home and guess what he bought her combs which since her hair is shortened she doesn't need right now, and he sold his watch to get her the combs so he got a nice chain but no watch now.
It's an interesting story that shows that people gave their most prized things to get something special for someone. This story is simple and has been used a plot for many Christmas and maybe other specials as well. I remember watching an episode of "Cat Dog" where this plot is used. I think it's because it's a simple story that can translate well , though it might be over used as well. The story itself fits with Christmas' spirt because it's about what we give of ourselves for Christmas.
It's nice that Jim in the story, was more understanding about his wife's haircut than she was a genuine kindness that shows he loves her no matter how she looks and more than just her hair. While Jim gave up something very important to himself to get something for his wife as a show of his love. It's something that Christmas' power shows.
