13 Days until Christmas
Hello, we put up to the court of public opinion this : The 2011 movie "Arthur Christmas" is a classic or should be deemed as such. Why? Well let's explain a premise of the movie first. This is a movie from Aadrdman , the same studio as "Wallace and Gromit .
Our main character ,Arthur, is the the son of the current Santa Claus and he works in the mail room of the North Pole while, his older brother, Steve, is the "Santa in waiting" runs mission control with the elves. The current Santa announces that he will be continuing, which gives Steve chagrin . A renaming gift is found - a gift for a girl in England named Gwen- whose letter was one that Arthur personally responded to. Arthur asks his father how this should be handled. Steve says that they had a successful Christmas and that they can fix this problem in a few days. When the Grandfather , GrandSanta, over hears , he says the only thing to is deliver it now on his old sleigh and the descendants of the original 8 reindeer. He whisks Arthur with and also a stoway elf, Bryony to deliver the gift on the ole' Eve,the old sleigh. Arthur finds out that his Grandfather's goal wasn't straight out of just wanting to deliver a gift to a hopeful child. While his brother won't help and his father has gone to bed -seemly,not worried that a child won't get their gift for Christmas. Now, I don't want to give away the whole movie, so I'll stop there.
This movie shows an interesting dynamic between the three main "Santas" : GrandSanta wants everything the traditional way he knows , while the grandson, Steve, loves the new tech and thinks everything should be done using technology and does runs the operation in a business sense. While current Santa, Malcom, is stuck in the middle, and he quite enjoys being Santa and isn't ready to give it up. You see his struggle with that in this movie. Arthur doesn't really dream of being Santa, and he seems to be happy working in the mailroom and has a genuine love for Christmas and the Santa operation and what Santa means. When Gwen's gift is missed he feels that something has to be done and strives to let nothing stop him to his goal. Though he does have a moment of this is hopeless , he snaps back into what his goal is to be achieved. He teaches his brother, father ,and grand father what they've been missing in their disputes, that it doesn't matter how Santa gets there and what tech Santa used , it's about the joy of a child who who put their faith in Santa.
The reason why I say it should be considered a classic is that exhibits Christmas well. Christmas is a season of tradition, hence why I personally expect there to be 25 days of Christmas and expect to see some stop motion Christmas specials on my TV, and we see Christmas trees , because it's tradition. While at the same time we all have been daunted by technology ,which has been changing alot and continues to do so, so we have this distance as time goes on. It's modern Christmas movie because it came out in 2011, but it's heart is a timeless one, nothing really dates the movie at all. It has a great story and message , it knows when to be funny , it knows when to make you tear up with sympathy or with joy. It's art work is beautiful and it has all the tones of Christmas and it all feels like Christmas. (as it should) The characters are great : Arthur is fun, sympathetic and kind . Bryony is awesome , she is a dedicated gift-wrapping elf I mean very dedicated and she is a great partner Arthur. I will reiterate that this movie doesn't have a villain , Steve doesn't turn evil or isn't trying to take his father out. (that would be a different movie) He's very focused on the efficiency of Christmas and thinks should he should the next Santa because of this. GrandSanta ,even though he helps Arthur at first to prove a point , he is a great character and he sees along with the others that there's more Santa and Christmas than just how something is done.
To close, this movie should be considered a classic movie for Christmas so go Watch it !
