21 Days until Christmas 3RD Night of Hanukkah
I mean look at this :
1. "Santa Baby, just slip a sable under the tree." What's a sable you ask? Well it's a mammal so yes it's fur don't get outraged!
2. "Santa baby, a 54 convertible too - Light blue, I’ll wait up for you." Any 54 convertible will do, just has to be light blue and the 1954 model year, I would want the same thing.
3. I want a yacht and really that’s not a lot. Might as well.
4. "The deed to a platinum mine" I have to admire that she wanted platinum not that standard gold or silver.
5. "stocking with a duplex And checks, sign your ‘x’ on the line Santa cutie" Just in case there is something I can't think of anything.
6. "With some decorations bought at Tiffany’s" not just any store, but Tiffany's I bet they liked that advertisement. I don't she means tinsel either.
7. "A ring, I don’t mean on the phone" well of course, wait she wants Santa to marry her?
The history of the song first. It was written by Phillip Springer and Joan Javitts with a financier who really wanted a song for Eartha Kitt. Apparently, this song's music was done in 5 minutes and took only a few weeks to put together. It was released in October of 1953 and was a hit. There was a problem , as always, plublishers wanted Javitts to write different sets of lyrics for the song and that made it hard for the song to stay as popular. By 1981, the song finally returned to it's creators and it was fully sold to Springer later that year. This brings us to Madonna. IN 1988, Springer agreed to give up the royalties to the song and her version also became a hit. (Source)
The song has been covered by other artists over the years as well. The thing I that I think makes Eartha's version the best is that like said above, it was written for her. She realily sells this song ,which is very much not to be taken too seriously (which I know is too hard for many in the modern times), but yet she owns the song and makes it feel very sincere with her request for Santa. Maybe Santa would be convinced by the overt flirting in the song who knows.
I don't think other covers capture the same spirit of the song really. I do like Madonna's version because she adds her own personality to the song yet actually not as overtly flirtatious in this version. Michael Buble's version is kind of strange though.
